Spanish for Travelers: A Learning Journal

The book features a series of interactive, self-directed lessons on Spanish for a specific purpose: to increase readers' communication with and connection to the Spanish-speaking world while traveling in it.

The book includes vocabulary words, basic grammar, common questions and answers, short dialogues, and local expressions with the intention of helping the readers become more independent travelers.

The Layout

The book is divided into eight chapters that target Spanish for different aspects of traveling, including preparing and packing for a trip, introducing yourself, transportation, shopping, and, of course, eating.

Each chapter encourages readers to customize their learning journey through the use of practice space for listing new foods that were tried, places visited, new words learned, and other highlights.

The Design Process

One of the challanges of designing Spanish for Travelers was finding a way to include the necessary input in the target language, while allowing the users to understand what was written in the book.

We tackled this challange in two ways: first, we made the book bilingual (English & Spanish). Second, we included illustrations that would visually guide the readers as they navigated through the book.
